you're beautiful
he said
she replied
can you not see?
the cigarette burns on my arms?
the fading bruises on my knees?
you're beautiful
he said
she replied
what, are you blind?
can't you see the scars upon my back?
and the scars upon my mind?
you're beautiful
he said
she replied
what fool you are
don't you see I won't ever be normal
I've been pushed too often, too far
you're beautiful
he said
she replied
you are confused
have you seen my track marks?
and how often I've been used?
you're beautiful
he said
she rplied
you cannot see
he smiled and he said
you're beautiful to me
he said
she replied
can you not see?

you're beautiful

This came from an idea that's been kicking around inside my head for a while, and then in class today, while I was supposed to be ignoring the teacher and studying for my history test with 's notes, a burst of inspiration, an epiphany, came upon me, and instead I ignored the teacher and wrote this poem. It took about two minutes, and a one more for revising.

very nice it's amazing (and confusing) how many times how someone thought someone else was so beautiful and attractive, and yet the other person tries everything in their power to find a reason to deny or downplay it...
